Have you ever sewn seam allowances and just couldn’t get it even? Well, for today’s tutorial, I will share with you a tip for sewing accurate seam allowances on garments. You see, when you are working on a garment project, you are not just going to sew one measurement of the seam allowance. As a matter of fact, when sewing clothes you are likely going to sew multiple seam allowance of different measurements. And as much as you’d like it to measure evenly, you can’t just rely on the bed of your sewing machine. This is why we have a magnetic seam guide. It is really helpful, and it is convenient. All you need to do is to measure and position it properly on your sewing machine throat plate. And before you know it, you just stitched that seam allowance perfectly.
There’s just one thing I’d like to tell my students when using the magnetic seam guide. Focus on the fabric and the guide and not on the stitches and the needle. Because the needle won’t move on you and definitely the straight stitches will always be straight. All you need to do is pay attention to the fabric. As a result, the stitches won’t go astray from the direction you needed it to be.
