This is a very special quilt I made for my boyfriend a few months ago! He turned 29 and I decided to make him a picnic quilt! Of course it isn’t only for him…. it’s for us both to share when we have picnics in the park or on the beach! :o)
I used a very simple pattern for this particular quilt because each of the blocks have such different fabrics and themes that I didn’t want any other choppier pattern to take away from the overall picture/theme of each print.
The different fabrics used represent things that he likes or enjoys! For example, one of the prints has basketballs all over it—- he loves basketball!…. Another print has a bunch of hot peppers on it— he loves spicy food!….. Another print has planets on it in outer space—- the one place he wants to visit is outer space!…. etc…etc..etc.
For the backing I used denim so that it would hold up better on the ground or on sand since it is a picnic quilt!
I was also able to hand-make a label for the back of the quilt! I have a Husqvarna Viking Scandinavia 400 machine that has 2 different alphabet features on it and I’m able to stitch out anything I want for labels! It’s a great feature!
I had a professional longarm quilter right here in Gainesville, FL quilt it for me using variegated rainbow thread and an overall edge-to-edge stars and swirls pantograph that I chose, of course! I love the look… the different colors of the thread go beautifully with all the different colors of the quilt!
I presented it to him at a birthday dinner we went to with his family and he loved it! I’m glad he did! We have since taken it to the beach for a picnic and it’s worked out great and its super comfy!
I have to give myself a few pats on the back for this one!! ;o)
