At $2.25 and $2.50 (respectively) per 1/2 yd I had to grab them! Implementing my Money Saving Tip #1 I just got back from Joann’s where I picked up these coordinating tonals with several 40% and 50% off coupons.
I’m excited to design and make this quilt for a special lady. We have corresponded and chatted over the phone several times but I have never met her in person. She is the sweetest lady ever who gave me my job as an Adjunct Professor at a local college. When I was pregnant with JRW I applied for the position because it was part-time and would allow me the opportunity to stay home after the baby was born and sill help the hubby out with an extra paycheck coming in. For several days I debated back and forth about whether or not to include the fact that I was pregnant in my cover letter. We all know how employers can be even though it is illegal for them to discriminate based on that they still do it. Everyone I spoke with adamantly told me NOT to mention it in the cover letter. But I just couldn’t lie so, against everyone’s advice I was bluntly honest (as usual) and said that my DH and I were expecting out first child and I was interested in the position because it would allow me to stay home, etc. The next week I received a phone call from this special lady offering me the position because she really appreciated my honesty and liked that I told her upfront about my situation. I could hardly believe it! When I told her my due date all she said was, “you know those babies come when they want come so, just keep me posted and if you have to miss the first week or two of classes I can fill in for you and let them know their professor just had a baby.” Ok, what employer or boss does that?! I was elated! That was over a year and a half ago and I recently found out she was diagnosed with cancer and after treatment is now cancer free! I have yet to meet her and I really want to make a special gift for her. She has blessed my family by giving me the opportunity to provide for them without sacrificing staying home with my baby and caring for him myself. We are forever grateful! I don’t know much about her but I hope she loves the quilt I’m about to design and make for her.
Have a great weekend!
(p.s.- a new fabulous fabric giveaway will be posted this weekend… look out for it.)

I hope I’m leaving my comment in the right place for the giveaway. You didn’t say where, or at least I didn’t see it. Anyway, I like your blog. My first quilt was a nine-patch and rail. I can’t hand quilt and so I needed to machine quilt it, but I didn’t want to do it on my domestic sewing machine. I hadn’t even heard of free motion quilting then. It sat on the shelf for months until I decided to hire a long-arm quilter to finish it for me. She did a great job. The quilt isn’t half bad as I look at it now, and it’s hanging in my sewing room. I’m glad I made the decision to hire a long arm quilter because I was kind of stuck until I got “right” with that decision. I still hire long arm quilters, but I’ve free motion quilted some of my latest quilts, and of course, some are tied. It’s a great hobby and I try to sew at least a little every day.

Great job Vanessa! It STILL makes me laugh that you’d never heard of a quilt! AM
