It’s still pretty hot here in North Florida but I’m excited to get a start on my fall garden. I spent this past week starting some seeds indoors. I’ve planted a ton of different veggies and varieties- some we grew last year and others are totally new. Just to give you an idea we are growing, cucumbers, beans, cauliflower, broccoli, spinach, swiss chard, cabbage, kale, bok choy, chinese cabbage, beets, carrots, and a ton of herbs. Phew! I anticipate it being a lot of work but we are okay with that… because nothing beats harvesting homegrown organic veggies!
Just looking at pictures from last Fall/Winter’s harvest gets me so excited to grow more this year…. especially since I had no idea what I was doing last year and grew some gorgeous veggies!
Chantenay Red Core carrots |
Belstar Broccoli |
Gonzales- early green Cabbage |
Champion collard greens |
Red Globe radishes |
Don’t last year’s veggies look delicious?! Well, if you don’t already grow your own food I definitely suggest you give it a try. Obviously, it’s going to depend on where in the world you live but at least consider doing some research either on the internet or at your local county extension office to gather more info on the appropriate planting season in your area. It really is a lot of fun and oh, so gratifying!
To help get you started I’ve posted my FIRST gardening video tutorial. I’m not an expert by any means but I’m definitely always wanting to learn. So, if you have some tried and true seed starting suggestions please post them as a comment below so I can check them out. If you’re new to gardening… it’s all about taking that first step and just getting your hands in the dirt! I hope this video helps get some of you started this Fall/Winter or at least inspire you to do your research in preparation for the Spring.
In the video I give you info on where I like to buy my heirloom and organic seeds, how I prep my seed trays, where I store my seed trays to help them germinate, how I made a temporary hoop house for my seedlings out of stuff we already had, etc.
