Welcome to another video of my Free Motion quilting tutorial series. In this third video, I will show you different straight stitch exercises. Additionally, I will share with you a technique you can use whenever you work with free motion quilting. In my previous video, you will see that I used my extension table as I do my free motion quilting. However, this time I will use a non-stick Teflon sheet, and yes it is the one you use for the oven. I find this convenient when moving my quilt sandwich around. Besides, it is inexpensive compared to other options.
Another tool that I use is the Hera marker. A lot of people have been using this for hand quilting, big stitch quilting, and sashiko quilting. It is sharp enough to create a crease, and as a result, you may not use chalk or ink anymore to make guide marks on your fabric.
I will show you tips on how to do straight stitches in a straight line and as well as straight stitches but going side to side. Especially, retracing previously stitch lines.
Here’s my free motion quilting tutorial with straight stitch exercises. Enjoy!
Happy Quilting!
