There is a cold front coming in tonight and it’s suppose to drop to 20º F… yup, in Florida! That may be shorts & flip flops weather for you Northeners but that is ice cold for us! I wanted to make my dogs some quick and easy fleece sweaters and it was SO easy I decided to film the video tutorial for it. I hope you will benefit from this tute! I’m sure your doggies would love to be a little warmer this winter. (If you’re currently in summer, check out this tutorial for a pet bandana.)
Izzy {the diva}, our 2 yr old Pitbull/Black Lab loves her new sweater! |
Butterball, our 4-month old Pitbull puppy. |
Even my old man, Onyx, an almost 9-yr old Shepherd/Rotweiler loves his sweater! |
They are really inexpensive to make and whip up in less than 30 minutes. Great beginner project! I made the puppy sized sweater for about $1! Grab the fleece remnants at your local fabric store or use a coupon. It doesn’t use up much fabric at all even for a big dog.
If you can’t find fleece locally, then you can get it in a ton of different colors and prints online, RIGHT HERE. (Amazon affiliate link)
As you can see from the pics, I made this project for three different sized dogs and it turned out great. For my biggest dog {90 lbs}, Onyx, I cut the neck cuff length at 1/3 of his ribcage/belly circumference measurement. However, you may need to make some adjustments since it’s a pretty basic project but feel free to take some additional measurements of your dog for more accurate results. In my experience once you make one you will have a better idea of what you need to do to make the second one fit better.
If you give this project a try please, then post pics to my Facebook page so we can see how it turned out and what cute prints you used!
Additionally, in the dog sweater video tutorial I also show you how to add a superhero applique to your dog’s new sweater. And I provide you with the FREE downloadable & printable PDF file. Download the superhero applique template HERE.
Hope you enjoy the tutorial and give it a try!
Stay warm out there!
Now, you go make some dog sweater. Watch this video tutorial for more details!
