Welcome to another tutorial from my Butterick 6214 Sew Along video series. Previously, I talked about the supplies you will need, the prep work that needs to be done, and how to cut the fabric. This time, I will show you how to sew the front, and back, then we’re gonna be sewing the sleeves of your garment. To begin with, you need to transfer the marks from the pattern pieces to the cut fabrics. And to do this, I just used some pins and washable markers. Also, take note that the marks should be transferred to the wrong side of the fabric.
After transferring the marks, then you are ready to work on your fabric pieces. Lay on top of the other the front and back pieces, and matching at the shoulder seams. Then, one side of the fabric, secure with a pin along the length of the seams while matching the notches as well. However, before doing the same on the other side, it is important to flip the fabric. It is just then you start pinning again from the shoulder seam down along the length of the seams. If you don’t do this, then you will be sewing with the bulk of the fabric on the inside of the throat space which is an uncomfortable orientation. Now, you are ready to stitch up your fabrics.
Once again, this is how you sew the front and back of your garment. I still discussed a lot here especially sewing the sleeves. Here’s my video tutorial to get into the details as I walk you through the instruction sheet step-by-step. I hope you enjoy it!
