Nobody warned me about this part.

This week, my 16-year-old son drove himself and his younger sister to high school.

Alone.

It’s his senior year and I can hardly believe it. But the even bigger shock is that the “baby” of the house is in high school now, too.

I was not ready for this.

Learn with Me

There’s something strange about watching your kids grow up because you can feel two things at once. I’m excited to see who they’re becoming. But there’s also a part of me that’s grieving.

I miss the little boy who loved to sew with me and the little girl who picked out her own fun outfits before doing her farm chores. I miss the homeschooling days when we would read books and eat picnic lunches under an oak tree surround by chickens and goats.

Nobody really warns you about how much motherhood involves letting go.

It feels weird to miss who they were and still be excited about who they’re becoming. But that’s how it goes, I guess. So, I’m embracing this new season.

Speaking of new seasons, there’s been plenty happening around here this week. Here’s a little peek at what we’ve been working on, growing, and creating lately…

CRAFTY GEMINI WORK

In the studio I’ve been working on the next Mystery Mini Bag Club #3 video course. This one has a few templates I needed to hand draft to send to my illustrator so we can get a pretty PDF for my students. I made it out of a few different fabric and interfacing combos to share the experience when students ask.

Nothing like putting on some music and designing and sewing in peace. We also had a great WhatNot show last week and I was able to cut all the fabric and get the orders shipped out in less than 12 hours. That part is so fun and like a game for me! How fast I can get these orders out?! LOL.

IN THE GARDEN

This is a busy Fall garden prep time for us so I’ll share more on that next week. But what I’m most excited to tell you about is my corn! I planted 60+ corn plants this past spring and after some crazy rainstorms drowned out the majority of it I felt defeated. We had just a small patch of it that thrived so I let it do whatever it was going to do. We didn’t get much but it was still over 1.5 lbs of homegrown Glass Gem (an American heirloom flint corn variety) kernels for popcorn! Gardening is so much fun, y’all! To take something from start to finish is so amazing. I love that I’m curious enough to grow new things every season and bring my teens along for the ride. We are all learning a ton.

This Week’s Favorite

My favorite thing this week is art meditation. Since I’m more easily overwhelmed these days and can’t seem to handle stress as easily as I once did I’ve been spending time each day doing these super fun exercises. I went down a bit of a rabbit hole on Instagram. Check out MoodBodyStudio on IG if you want more info. Her account is awesome. Feels good to not have to be doing something creative with any expectation that it be pretty or useable or anything. I didn’t even have the “right” supplies and still made it work with whatever I had. 10/10 recommend.

That’s a wrap for this week! Thanks for coming along for the ride. Until next week, I hope you find a little time to slow down, notice/appreciate the season you’re in, and enjoy it before it changes. ❤️
