Intro to Body Measurements for Sewing Patterns with The Crafty Gemini

In this video, I am going to talk about a very interesting topic when it comes to sewing clothes- how to take your body measurements for sewing patterns. Most importantly, how to plot these measurements to the size charts. The three basic body measurements you need to know how to measure are the bust, waist, and hips. I will give you tips on how to properly measure those three things. Have you ever wondered your size varies from this company to another company? Well, it is because there is really no actual rules of standard for that. Each of these companies has its own size chart. Additionally, I will show various size charts from commercial and independent patterns, then I will teach you how to read them.

Basically, to begin taking your body measurements, first, stand in front of the mirror. Then, smile, be happy, and love your body the way it looks! Some of you might not want to check yourself in the mirror. However, you should always remember this: if you don’t know what your body looks like, then you will not be able to create cute and definitely comfortable clothes that will fit your body. Accept your body because numbers don’t lie. You don’t need to edit those numbers that you measured. Besides, it’s about us enjoying the sewing process and making garments that fit us.

Btw, before I forget, you will need an essential sewing tool for this- a measuring tape. And I have my favorite with me, the one I used in this video. You can find it HERE
