I’m teaching in Lakeland, FL again!

My September/October 2014 teaching schedule is set and if you live anywhere near Lakeland, FL you won’t want to miss out!

September/October 2014 Class Schedule

• Friday, September 5th: Mod Mushrooms Paper Pieced Block


Cost/Time: $25, 2:30- 4:00pm and 5:00-7:30pm. *Course is being offered twice! You only need to attend one session.
Class Description:
Come learn the basics of foundation paper piecing! You’ll practice on a simple block before jumping into a more modern adn funky mushroom block.  I’ll share my tips and tricks for perfectly pieced blocks. The unfinished Mod Mushrooms block finishes 10.5″ x 10.5″. All you need to bring are fabric scraps (at least a few fat quarters and the rest can be smaller pieces about 8″ x 8″) and you usual quilting supplies. You can bring your own sewing machine or use one of the shop’s machines. All paper piecing templates and a class worksheet will be provided for you.  

• Saturday, September 6th: Halloween SpiderWeb Table Topper


Cost/Time: $40, 10:00am – 2:00pm 
Class Description:
Make the perfect quilted table topper just in time for Halloween! This hexagon shaped table topper finishes about 20″ x 22″ and looks like a spiderweb so we top it off with a spider applique for the finishing  touch. Supplies: Bring your usual quilting supplies and 1/4 yard of 6 or more different Halloween themed fabrics.  For the batting bring at least a 25″ square piece and the same size of a coordinating backing fabric. For binding bring 1/4 yard of a coordinating fabric.  The fusible web, applique template and googly eyes will be provided for you. But you will need to bring a piece of black scrap fabric for your spider. If you have a 6.5″ x 24″ ruler that has a 60º angle marked on it be sure to bring it! It will make the prep work a lot easier for you.  If you plan to hand sew the binding to the backside of your project in class bring your hand sewing needle also. 

• Friday, October 17th: Modern Quilting: Scoreboard Quilt Block & Pattern


Cost/Time: $25, 5:30pm- 8:00pm
Class Description: Learn how to create my Scoreboard quilt block. This block and the finished quilt were featured in the May/June 2014 issue of Quilty magazine.  The block lends itself to pretty much to any contrasting color combination.  I will bring the finished quilt for students to see how I pit it all together including the pieced backing and scrappy binding that was machine stitched into place. Learn about some modern quilting techniques and elements while learning to create a Scoreboard block. For your supplies please bring 1/2 yard each of two high contrasting fabrics. The pattern for the block and quilt will be provided for you.  Bring some painter’s tape or post it notes if you have as well.  All other basic quilting supplies are necessary as well. 

• Saturday, October 18th: Quilt-As-You-Go Tablet Cover


Cost/Time: $35, 2:00- 5:00pm {*An additional $8 (cash only) should be provided to instructor at the beginning of class if you do not have the Bosal interfacing product available. Read class descriptions for details.}
Class Description: This is one of my most popular online classes! Now you can come learn how to make this gorgeous and functional project with me in person! You’ll learn how to make a stylish cover for your iPad or other tablet. No matter what mobile tablet device you use I’ll teach you how to take the proper measurements and transfer that your fabric to make a custom protective sleeve. No two projects will be the same and we utilize a very fun and freeing improvisational piecing technique that you are sure to enjoy! These tablet covers make the best gifts and you have plenty of time to crank out a bunch for the holidays. These work great for male, female child or adult! I will also teach you my preferred closure method for this project that is super easy and secure. No buttons, zippers or velcro! For your supplies bring four (4) fat quarters (or more!) for the outer cover. One fat quarter for the lining. 1/4 yard for the binding. The closure and interfacing (Bosal’s In-R-Form Plus) will be provided by me for an additional $8 materials fee. Bring your basic quilting supplies and your favorite binding clips!
