Current Workshops:

any which way paper pieced mini quilt workshop taught by crafty gemini

The Any Which Way mini quilt is a fun and modern foundation paper pieced design.  Students will learn the basics of FPP and some great tips & tricks to make the process go quickly and painlessly!

If booked for a 4-hour workshop students will have enough time to make the quilt top.

If booked for a 6-hour workshop Vanessa will also teach students big stitch hand quilting and how to make and attach a scrappy binding. Students should have enough time to hand or machine quilt it and bind it in 6 hours.

Instructor provides all 12 FPP paper sheets needed to complete the project as well as a one page PDF with supply list and supplemental instructions for the project.

The Mod Mushrooms quilt block is an introductory class into foundation paper piecing. This is a great scrap busting project that can be turned into a mug rug, mini quilt, wall hanging or used to create a larger project as well.

This is a 3-hour workshop which includes a 30-minute trunk show of some other FPP projects to offer students some ideas and inspiration.

Instructor provides two FPP paper sheets. One is needed to complete the project, the other is an extra. Class also includes a two-page PDF with supply list and supplemental instructions.

In this very popular workshop students will learn to make a stylish cover/sleeve for their iPad or other tablet. No matter what mobile tablet device you have I’ll teach you how to take the proper measurements and transfer them to your fabric to make a custom protective sleeve. No two projects will be the same and we utilize a very fun and freeing improvisational piecing technique! These tablet covers make the best gifts because they can be made for male, female child or adult! Students will learn how to attach Vanessa’s preferred closure for this project that is easy to install and secure. No buttons, zippers or velcro!

This is a 4-hour workshop and includes a 5-page PDF with text instructions.

Learn how to create my Scoreboard quilt block! Once you have the block made all you need to do it repeat it to get make a quilt in the size you want. In this workshop students will make 3-5 Scoreboard blocks and turn it into a modern table runner. Struggling to match fabrics or work with scraps from your stash? Use this simplified approach to ensure your quilt projects are pleasing to the eye no matter what colors or fabrics you are using. Focus will be on solid fabrics but different examples will be shared as well. Students will work on a modern table runner project featuring the Scoreboard block and using the fabric selection technique learned.

My Scoreboard quilt was featured in the May/June 2014 issue of Quilty magazine. The finished quilt will be present for students to see how I put it all together including the pieced backing and scrappy binding that was machine stitched into place. Learn about modern quilting techniques and elements while learning to create a Scoreboard block. The pattern for the block and quilt will be provided.

This is a 4-hour workshop. Students will usually complete 3-5 blocks, piece together the top for the table runner in that amount of time.

improv flower pots workshop by crafty gemini

This improvisational project features piecing without measuring your pieces. This is a great way to use up scraps and to piece outside the box! I will teach you how to use up small scraps and bring them all together with a contrasting background and lots of negative space. Students will learn the basics of improvisational piecing and will complete this small mini quilt of deconstructed flower pots in the process.  No two quilts will look the same! Several modern quilting elements will be discussed and explained including negative space, big stitch hand quilting, asymmetry and the use of bold prints.

This is a 4-hr workshop. Students should have enough time to piece the top, hand quilt it and possibly bind it during the class.

woven quilt design by crafty gemini

Learn how to create my Woven quilt.  This simple modern quilt design uses color contrast to display a woven design in the quilt top. In this workshop students will make the blocks needed to piece together this quilt top. I will teach my technique for selecting fabrics for this striking design. Students will also learn about modern quilting elements featured in this quilt.

My Woven quilt was featured in the Jan/Feb 2014 issue of Quilty magazine. The finished quilt will be present for students to see. Learn about modern quilting techniques and elements while learning to create a Scoreboard block.

The printed quilt pattern for the block and quilt will be provided for each student.

This is a 4-hour workshop. Quilt measures 48″ x 48″. Students will usually complete the entire quilt top in the 4-hours.

    Hello, your retreats page does not indicate the location of these retreats—at least I can’t find any indication, and I have pressed every button.

      Hi Peggy. Have you read the retreat contract that is linked to on that page? That has all the info and a signed copy is required of each retreater. Hope that helps.
