Day 1 Recap- Quilt Con West 2016

Hi all!  Yesterday was Day 1 of QuiltCon West 2016 and I was tired when I got to my hotel room last night that I fell asleep at 9pm. I feel well rested and ready to tackle Day 2! But before I do that let’s recap Day 1.

Jacquie Gering announcing the winners of QuiltCon West 2016.

My morning started off with the Awards Ceremony where Jacquie Gering announces all the winners for every category in the show. We basically get to see a picture of the quilt on a big screen via  a PowerPoint presentation and meet the winners if they are in the room. Several winners were not there because they live overseas, were teaching a class, were taking a class that morning, etc. So some of them find out via social media posts that they won or they also have staff that will run to their class and let them know they won.  After the Awards Ceremony is over it’s usually time to open the doors to the main show and you walk right in.

On your way to the main entrance to the Exhibit Hall there are beautiful quilts from a charity quilt challenge lining the walls of the hall. Here are a few pics I snapped.

Then as you walk into the main Exhibit Hall you see the biggest winner- Best in Show.

The story and inspiration behind the winning quilt.

I didn’t get a chance to walk the floor yesterday as I was pretty busy working the Northcott Fabric booth, meeting and greeting people, taking pictures and doing a demo on my Blue Springs quilt. Today I plan to check out the quits and the vendor booths. So I hope to have more pics for you on today’s recap post. Stay tuned!

A huge thanks to Crafty Gemini Quilt Club member, Mary K. who took some pictures of me at my demo. Here are some pictures including the big reveal of my Blue Springs quilt. I really love this quilt and am very happy with how it turned out. I used 8 different shades of blues from Northcott Colorworks Premium Solids.

It was so great seeing you a few times. The most meaningful was the panel discussion on Sunday. Thank you for being who you are.
