Quilting Retreat in Florida with Me!

crafty gemini quilt retreat florida march 2016

If you missed my email newsletter last week then you probably don’t know that I’m hosting a quilt retreat here in Florida in March 2016! I still have some spots left so I thought I’d post another quick reminder for anyone else interested in spending a weekend quilting with me and other quilty friends!

The retreat will be held in the small town of Hawthorne, FL. The space is amazing, the food is delicious (not your typical camp food!) and we have such a great time whenever we get together to do what we love!

Note: My retreats are NOT your typical weekend get-togethers to quilt with friends.  I go all out! We have so much fun and I’d love to have you join us!

Here are just SOME of the things you can expect at this retreat:

• 4 days/3 nights double occupancy accommodations in hotel-style rooms. Each room has a private bathroom.

• I hire a 56- passenger charter bus service to take us on a road trip to two quilt shops on our way to St. Augustine (the country’s oldest city!) We let you loose for lunch in St. Augustine and give you a chance to take in the history, architecture and the beach view before heading back to  the retreat center.

• We have an evening party complete with props and a photo booth where you can take pictures with your quilty friends and have them printed for you on site at no additional cost.

• Amazing meals with options!

• I hire several instructors to offer quilting classes and optional kits for their projects.

• We will have a special guest instructor from PolymerClay TV teaching a polymer clay button making class

• Goodie bags that are stocked with AMAZING fabric, notions, etc!

• Giveaways throughout the day. Lots of opportunities to win something!

• I hire two massage therapists to provide each retreater with one 15-minute chair massage.

• You don’t even have to bring a sewing machine! Sew-Mini Things in Mt.Dora, FL provides us with loaner JUKI sewing machines at no additional cost to you! No sharing of machines either. You will have your own machine to use at the retreat.

• I provide design walls, cutting mats, rotary cutters and irons for you to use.

• You’ll also receive a few different mementos including a retreat t-shirt, autographed selfie polaroid picture with me, etc.

Trust me… it’s gonna be awesome! So call up some of your friends and make it a trip!

So, now that you are itching to sign up here are some things to consider before you sign up:

I am checking for flights from Nashville to both airports in Florida and it would be beneficial for me to fly into JAX. However, I don’t want to miss anything so what if I did not arrive until Thursday afternoon and leave Sunday afternoon?

Also as an FYI- The Jacksonville airport is about 1hr 45 minutes from the retreat center and the Gainesville airport is only about 40 minutes. Hope that helps!

We start on Thursday afternoon. Check in is after 1:00pm and checkout is after brunch/lunch around 1pm as well. Hope that helps! And we have some West Coast people coming the day before or later that afternoon. It works out fine. You won’t miss much! Hope you can make it!

Hi! To see if there is a spot available click on the link in the post to pay the deposit and it will let you know if you can go through with the payment or it will say sold out. The best options for getting to the retreat center are a rental car. It’s in a pretty secluded area and there are no shuttles or taxis going there. Thanks!

How friendly is this retreat to a beginner quilter? I’m self taught through using online tutorials (MSQC and Crafty Gemini). I’ve made two quilts and would like to better my technique and make sure that I’m doing it the right way. I love this new hobby and want to become a more skilled quilter. A fast learner from Maryland!

Hi! You don’t have to be a Quilt Club member for this one but almost all the spots are gone and most are quilt club members. To see if there is a spot available click on the link to pay the deposit and it will let you know if you can go through with the payment or it will say sold out. Thanks!

One last question, is it common for retreaters to come alone without a quilt buddy? If so, would I automatically be paired up with someone in order to have a roommate? Or are there single rooms? Thanks!

Both are common. If you come alone you will be automatically paired up with a roommate. All rooms are double-occupancy. No single rooms.
