I took a break from posting a tutorial this week because we were out of town on Christmas Eve celebrating with my family.  It was also my 4-year wedding anniversary! So, it was great to spend it with my amazing husband and extended family.

My son got exactly what he wanted for Christmas. His “own sewing machine, race cars and monster trucks.” I love that he listed them in that order, too!

Got him his first sewing machine just like he asked!

I finally decided on this baby blue Kenmore 11206 sewing machine.  I did some research and discovered that Janome makes the newer Kenmore machines…and I love the one little basic Janome machine I already have.  So, for less money you get a Janome machine that has the Kenmore name on it. Sounds good to me! If this machine looks familiar it’s because it is the same as the ever-popular  Janome Hello Kitty sewing machine. Just a different color and the word Kenmore stuck on it. Cool, eh?! You can imagine how excited I was to see that Tuesday Morning had the machine on sale for $59.99! I had to jump on it! Click HERE to see if the sale is still running.

Opening up his first sewing machine… and looks like someone wants one too!

I originally purchased THIS sewing machine for him because it’s the Kenmore version of a little Janome workhorse machine I have.  But after I found the blue one and it’s just a touch smaller than a regular sized machine I thought he would love this one more so I ordered it too. But the 19106 is a great beginner machine so I kept it anyway. So what if I have the exact same machine already? I didn’t return it. {Of course, not!} I’m keeping it for myself and just adding it to my sewing machine stash.

Total machine count as of today{not counting my son’s}: 7
It really is an addiction. Sssshhhh… don’t tell my hubby!
I hope to do some reviews on these beginner machines in the coming weeks/months since I get so many requests for machine recommendations for newbies. So stay tuned for that!
Hope you are enjoying the holiday season. I’ll chat with you again soon!

How cute that your son wants to learn to sew! Obviously he sees how much you love it. You’ll have fun teaching him, I’m sure. : ) Collecting machines IS addictive. My love is for the vintage machines. I only have one newer machine. A Brother Pacesetter ULT2003D that I use for my shop. The others are all vintage from a treadle to quite a few electric machines. I’m especially partial to the old black machines. In all at last count I have 19 sewing machines. The story of how I got the last one is on my blog.

If it is possible, I would love to see some Youtube videos on you teaching your son on his new sewing machine. I am a beginner sewist and my 6 year old daughter is also interested. It would be fun for both of us to learn together and by her seeing your son learning also, it would motivate her more to continue. I subscribe to your YT channel and follow you on pinterest, so if you do plan on doing this, post for me to know. I will be buying my daugther’s sewing machine in the new year 2013. Keep up the terrific work! (ltcartwright, Bahamas)

You can get pretty cheap machines on e-bay.I have seen them as low as $20.00.I got my machine for less than half the price of them new in stores.Plus I have seen the small dressmakers for as low as $10.00.I got mine on there for $5.00 and it works as well as the singer I have!
Well good luck with your sewing, and if you can perfect the 1/4″ seam you have it made!God Bless and Happy New Year!

Happy belated wedding anniversary, Vanessa! We celebrated our 15th year right after you… on Christmas Day. I pray for you and hubby many, many more happy years. 😀

Blessings and peace to Team Wilson,
    From Team Jackson.

(My almost 7 year old son loves your posts and videos, but I can’t let him see this post before I figure out how to get myself out of telling him he was too young for a machine. Oh dear Lord!)

Those photos are precious! My daughter loves her green Hello Kitty Machine! She has made pillows, quilts and pj bottoms on it over the past 4 years! (She is 14 now) I’m glad it comes in blue! I have some friends who bought their son the green one and pulled off the Hello Kitty stuff, and put in place “cool stickers”.

😀 my daugter and I really love your youtube channel. She has asked me to teach ehr to sew and we started with you simple drawstring bag. I was so nervous the whole time! I just worry that she is going to sew her fingers! Thanks so much for your videos. You have encouraged me to start sewing again and I have really taken off. Thanks again!

I only have my one sewing machine as of yet, but as I get my home business going I know I’ll finally have justification for more. I’ve been so tempted to get one of the those beautiful antique Singers “just because.” Eventually I’m sure I’ll have one tucked away in my sewing room. Do you have a serger?
