If you follow me on Facebook you have probably been following my new artistic journey- my first ever art course! Believe it or not I have never taken an art course (except in elementary school). I was beyond excited when my husband told me to find a course I wanted to take at the local college (where he works) and register for it. I was hesitant at first because you know… I have a farm, two preschoolers, a home, a business and a ton of other stuff that occupy my time so I don’t possibly have time to do something just for plain ol’ fun. He insisted.  We looked over the summer course schedule and I found an Art Fundamentals class.  I read the description and it’s basically a little bit of everything- drawing, painting with acrylics, some mixed media, etc.  Sounded awesome to me!  I’ve been to 3 classes so far and I’m having a blast.

I’ve never drawn anything in my life! Seriously, all I can draw are very elementary looking stick figures.  In this week’s class our instructor put a wilted potted plant in front of the white board and I had to draw all the white board spaces I could see while looking at the plant.  In other words, I was not to draw the plant itself. Instead, you look past the plant and draw the open spaces that reveal the white background. Make sense? A little tricky but once I got the hang of it I started to enjoy the process a little more. After the drawing is done you shade the negative areas and that makes the the whole thing pop! So now you can {kinda} see what was in front of it.

I am so impressed with myself for this that I just had to share it with you!
It feels good to do something just for fun… and for myself!
What activities do you like to do to get away from it all and just have fun?
