NEW Hand Embroidery Video Tutorial Series!

han embroidery video tutorials

Today I’m kicking off a brand new video tutorial series on hand embroidery! This is going to be FUN!

In this first video I go over the supplies I recommend for hand embroidery! This should give you plenty of time to gather the basic supplies before the next video is released in a few weeks.

If you aren’t much of hand sewer or don’t care for embroidery (yet!) I suggest you still watch my video series! You may change your mind once you see how easy and fun it is! What I enjoy most about hand embroidery is how small, portable and relaxing it is. I also like it because I can be with my kids while I work on a project. I do most of my sewing in my studio which is a separate building from my house so it’s fun when I can sit in a rocking chair while my kids work on puzzles or art projects.

In this video I go over fabrics, embroidery hoops, needles, thread/floss, thread conditioner and share with you some other tips and ideas for getting started!

Some sample stitches I will teach you how to make in a future video!

Some other reasons to try hand embroidery:

• Inexpensive supplies

• No need for electricity

• Project & supplies don’t take up much space

• Doesn’t require a table or workstation (your family can have their dining room table back!)

• Great for keeping busy while traveling (road trips, airplane rides, etc.)

• Relaxing and fun!

Am really looking forward to following this video series on hand embroidery. The first one is great- – is the second one coming in a week? Excited to get started! Haven’t hand embroidered for YEARS. Luckily, I scored really big at an auction last year acquiring a huge amount of thread and the boxes they are stored in, patterns, needles, etc. It’s all waiting for me. : )

Great beginning video for your new series. Quick and to the point, love it. BTW, in answer to your question, my favorite handwork is Counted Crossstitch and crocheting :-).

Good job, CG! You are inspiring me to get out my embroidery hooks and supplies. It’s a good thing to do while watching/listening to t.v. I’m looking forward to your tutorials.

I’m excited to see the new video series!! I love the way you instruct, and always find them very clear and concise. I already have the supplies, and am always looking for new tutorials. I haven’t been embroidering long, but I do love embroidering on the wool blend felts. They hold up well, don’t need a hoop, and if you use the Sulky Fabri-Solvy, you can print your patterns, attach it to the felt and embroider through it, then just soak it in cold water to remove it… it just dissolves, like magic! Would especially like to see some Thanksgiving and Christmas patterns.

Thanks much Vanessa. I can sit and do these when I do my chemo treatments-they last 3 hours long. I did some embroidery years ago and enjoyed it very much.

Vanessa, I am getting ready to start my first hand embroidery project and am so happy I follow you and saw this intro vid.. I love to hand quilt… it is my passion actually 🙂 But I am about to piece a quilt called “Journey of a Quilter”… it is patchwork and embroidery and calls for a fusible woven webbing to be added to your cotton quilters fabric before embroidery called “Weaveline” … this pattern is from Australia.. do you know what would be similar to that product in the states? Looking forward to future hand embroidery vids 🙂 Kathi

When will the next hand embroidered video be out? Our guilde’s BOM will use embroidering and as I usually love your tutorials, I was hoping to suggest it to the BOM chair.
