How to Crochet- Flattering Cowl Video Tutorial & Giveaway

Flattering_Cowl_Pinterest

This is a beginner crochet project, I swear! It may not look like it but it is! The yarn is textured and variegated. It does all the work for you. I’ve created a step-by-step video tutorial for you to follow along with too. You can do it!

I have to admit I usually steer clear of textured yarns because they can make it more difficult to see my crochet stitches. I decided to take on the challenge and try out Lion Brand Yarn’s Homespun Thick & Quick. I’m so glad I gave it a go. It’s awesome!  The yarn is super soft and warm. And I would actually recommend this yarn and project for a crochet beginner. I tell you my reasons why in this video tutorial. Watch it and give it a go.

This pattern is called the Flattering Cowl. It’s a FREE pattern you can download off the Lion Brand Yarn website.  I love that you can customize it and make it your own. You can use one or two skeins of Lion Bran Yarn’s Homespun Thick & Quick. Make it shorter, longer, narrower, thicker, etc. No matter what look you prefer you can do it with this pattern.

The entire thing is done in double crochet. A beginner crochet stitch that whips up very quickly! Did I mention this yarn is super bulky, too?! I used a size N crochet hook but you could go even bigger for a faster finish. I can make one of these cowls in less than two hours with the two skeins. If you made one with just one skein you could probably make it in less than an hour.

I whipped up a few different Flattering Cowls for you to see the variety in yarns and in how thick it is when you make it with two skeins of yarn versus just the one. The two skein version is pretty dramatic. I like that. If you don’t, feel free to make it smaller and shorter. It’s all a matter of personal preference. One of the joys of making your own stuff, right?
