Brother ScanNCut Sneak Peek #2!

Here is another example of a perfect cutting job by the new Brother ™
ScanNCut, the first home and hobby cutting machine with a built-in scanner! You may be wondering how in the world that scanning feature works. Well, read on.

If you’ve been following my tutorials for a while you may recognize this cupcake applique.  It’s the design I created for my cupcake mug rug tutorial.  Well, this time around I used the same cute cupcake to embellish a baby’s onesie. {No worries, a tutorial on this project is coming soon!} Notice the perfect shape of the cupcake– yea, that’s because I didn’t have to use a pair of scissors. No choppy or ragged edges here! I simply scanned my design into the machine and it cuts it out for me right out of the fabric.  Yes, the machine cuts through fabric with a fusible adhesive on the back with no problem! A super easy way to crank out tons of appliques!

Interested in learning more about the ScanNCut? Be sure to sign up for the newsletter HERE so you’ll be the first to get the latest updates and 411 on the machine’s official launch which is coming very soon!

Are you envisioning all the appliques you can create with this machine, yet?

I am so excited for this machine to come out! I went to pick up my sewing machine this weekend (it needed a cleaning and serviced) and I asked my Brother store about it and they said they should have one in within the next 1-2 weeks. So excited! 🙂

I did ask and the lady said she could not remember. I think it is a ploy to get me to go back to the store so they can talk me up to buy it! 🙂 (Which probably won’t be that hard once I see it!)

That is what I’m also trying to find out. I did speak to the rep at the CreativFestival yesterday. One thing I don’t like is the fact that Brother do not offer any cutting files besides those already built into the machine. They are promoting the fact that you don’t have to buy cutting files, just scan whatever you want. However, for my purposes that is not always going to work. If I have to draw my own images first, that’s the end for me. I can’t draw! LOL

Diane, I don’t think you will have to draw, you can scan any picture and have it cut it out. My question is can a picture be re-sized?

I have one. If you are cutting an image you have on your paper, you don’t want to resize that. If you are using one of the built in images, or created an image and saved to your machine, you can resize those. Remember, the machine does not print, so you are resizing the outlines and cutouts of the images, just like you would with the Cameo or Cricut. You always use your printer to print, and the Scan and Cut to well, scan and cut. I have cut over 200 images with it using it to cut images I have printed on a letter sized paper. The cuts were perfect and the machine cut fast. There were no snags. You can increase or decrease the border around what was scanned in. There are several tutorials on YouTube. I watched most of the videos I could find before purchasing the machine, so I did have an idea of what the machine could and could not do.

How great to have smooth even edges! You just can’t get a cut like that with scissors, I don’t care how careful you are.
I saw you on my local PBS on “Sew-It-All” the other day..felt as though I was watching an old friend!

I own a scan n cut, it is awesome. you scan, cut, sew. Do not have to draw unless you want to. A lot of built in designs, and yes they can be resized. Great for scrap booking, any paper projects, can draw, make your own cards, quilt patterns (tons).. The list goes on and on. Do not need any extras, or a computor, it will store your designs for later use. You can scan a photo to a memory stick, download it to your computor for safe keeping. You can also put your designs on a memory stick and save all your designs. Check it out before you make any decisions, it is well worth the cost. Good Luck.

I don’t own a scan and cut, but if you watch all the videos are out, the biggest difference is you don’t have to buy anymore of the expensive cartridges, the Brothers will cut anything you want. I have both the cricut and the silhouette, and I am going to get the brothers and sell the other 2.

I just bought a scan n cut to add to my home embroidery business! I scanned a logo for a business and the lettering cut perfect except for the centers of the letters! Like the middle of the A R O…..what did I do wrong????

To fix this issue, I have to open the SVG file in Make The Cut and “weld” or “join” the inner and outer lines together. Otherwise, all the Canvas website sees is the outer line. Let us know if that works for you!
