After meeting and hanging out with Jule Fei-Fan Balzer on a {secret} business trip a few weeks ago I have been super inspired to get into art journaling. If you don’t know Julie’s work you NEED to check it out!

Julie Fei-Fan Balzer

I’ve been watching her for years on the Scrapbook Memories PBS show {now called Scrapbook Soup} so it was so awesome to meet her in person!

She offers tons of tutorials, videos and online courses for everything paper craft and art related and even some sewing projects on her blog- Balzer Designs.

After returning from my trip I took to my studio and pulled out a bunch of art supplies I had on hand and then went to a local craft store to get some more. I get home, set the kids up with me at the table for “art time” and let me tell you how much fun we had! We spent the next week painting every day!

We used craft paints, watercolors, crayons, markers, and stamps!
Allie, 20 mos working on a masterpiece!
Jonathan, 3.5 yrs so focused!
In true younger sibling nature she wants his watercolors instead of hers!
While the kids had their fun I had mine! I took an old journal, pulled out every other page {to account for all the added stuff going in the art journal} then glued two pages together at a time to bulk them up a bit, added a coat of gesso and started painting and stamping.
This was one of my first pages. I really love the bright and cheery colors and thrown together feel of it.

Here is another page I made. I especially love that there are no right or wrong ways to art journal. You just do whatever you want and feel. It’s a great way to work through your thoughts, feelings and even make simple to-do lists, etc.  It’s yours and you do whatever you want with it!

I experimented with pages from a book I collaged on and a flower image from an old seed catalog I had.
When I posted these pics on my Facebook page a lot of you expressed an interest in seeing some videos of how to get started and how I make my pages.  I just started art journaling but I have no problem sharing my process with you.
Is this something you would be interested in seeing video tutorials on? Let me know by posting a comment below!
Do you art journal?
