So, this quilt is made up of only two blocks- Block #1 and Block #2.  You make six of each and add some sashing and that’s the quilt top! Easy peasy! This week we are working on making our six Block #1 units.

Heads up! The video is over 21 minutes long!  It’s super in depth and perfect for the quilting newbie.  Even if you are not participating in this quilt along I hope think you will gain something from my tutorial.

Some of what you can expect to learn is:

• A very handy two-ruler trick
•Beginner tips on sewing scant 1/4″ seams
• Beginner tips on measuring scary fractions (3/8″, 5/8″ 7/8″)

I’m confident this video is jam packed with helpful information and tips.
I also announce last week’s giveaway winners and reveal this week’s giveaway where two more lucky winners will win some great stuff- a Victorian Modern fat quarter bundle and an EZ Quilting 3 ruler set in the sizes I recommend every quilter start with- 6.5″ square, 9.5″ square and 6.5″ x 24″{my all-time favorite ruler}.

My difficulty as a newbie will be quilting on my home machine. I’ve practiced on potholders and it’s either operator error or my machine, I don’t know which. Maybe I need a lesson on what needle to use. Anyway, I would certainly love to win that fabric bundle! I tried leaving this comment on the youtube page but I’m doing something wrong there too. I typed it in but couldn’t figure out how to publish it so it would show . . . operator error again? 😉

By the way, I also meant to say that at first I thought I wouldn’t be able to follow your video because you speak quite fast (but at least you speak clearly!) and then you also have text on the video which is very helpful. So I find it quite easy after all! Thank you for taking the time to share your talent!

I have a really tough time cutting things straight. But the way you showed me to use two rulers should help. I keep trying!!! a friend of mine gave me a huge pile of fabric she didn’t want anymore, so I don’t feel so bad making mistakes!!

I am just starting to quilt so as a newbie I will soon find out what is difficult. Your videos are so easy to understand and the tips you offer will make it easier for me to avoid some of the problems many new quilters have. Thanks.

Thank you for designing such a beautiful quilt that has blocks that are “doable” for those of us with sight or arthritic issues!! I love quilting, but have not done so in many years, because of blocks requiring such tiny pieces. I am able to follow along via your videos, but I have many friends who do not have that option…do you, perhaps, have a tutorial on this quilt that would be printable for them? Happy Stitching, Debbie

Hi Vanessa. I would love to win the Slice. I would use it to make appliques for my grandchildren jammies I would make cards in bookmarks and decorations and have a blast! I also like that it’s small and it seems to be portable. That’s a plus.
