Alliance for American Quilts

About a year and a half ago I entered an online giveaway and won!   My prize was an autographed copy of Meg Cox’s The Quilter’s Catalog- A Comprehensive Resource Guide.  I love it!  If you’ve never checked it out you are missing out.  It’s a very insightful book for both beginner and advanced quilters.

Anyway, ever since then… I subscribe to her newsletter.  This month’s issue is the first with nice bright pictures and the format is more like a print out newsletter.  To subscribe, go here: http://tiny.cc/lugre

The newsletter included information on something totally new for me: Alliance for American Quilts Contest.

This competition is for donations of 16″ x 16″ quilts.  “All entries will be auctioned with 100% of the proceeds supporting the AAQ and its projects. This auction is one of our most successful annual fundraisers and a great way for quiltmakers to support our mission in a creative way.”

The theme is Alliances: People, Patterns, Passion. For complete guideline information click HERE.  They are giving out tons of prizes and the grand prize winner will receive.. get this:

“The Grand Prize winner will choose from any of Handi Quilter machine quilting systems: an HQ Sweet SixteenTM sit-down machine; the HQ18 Avanté, an 18” longarm; or the HQ24 Fusion, a 24” longarm. Everything you need to get started is included: machine, table/frame, bobbin winder and “Getting Started” DVD and training with your local HQ Rep”
WOW!

Non-refundable entry fee: Non AAQ members pay $25 for the first quilt entered and $10/ea for subsequent quilts. Alliance members pay $5 per quilt.
Consider joining AAQ because it only costs $25 per year. Click HERE for details.
They’ve posted different inspiration ideas on the guidelines page for you to get those creative juices flowing!  I think I’m going to enter a quilt.  You should consider it too!

    Vanessa–
Great post about the Alliance contest. Thanks for helping to get the word out there.
I hope you will make a quilt for the contest. I make one every year and it’s really fun seeing it posted on the AAQ website, on eBay and elsewhere and then it’s great when someone buys your quilt. Last year, I got an email from the quilter in England who bought my contest quilt.
cheers, Meg Cox, president, Alliance for American Quilts
